About us

The Master of Advanced Studies in "Natural Hazards Management" is an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented program designed to educate managers, engineers and social planners on how to:

• understand processes relating to natural hazards
• evaluate risk and to ensure sustainable management of infrastructure and built environment
• consider socio-political influences

The participants of the Master will be trained to achieve an enhanced understanding of the processes of natural hazards. Different aspects are explored: how the various processes in isolation and in interaction, as well as human activities, might induce consequences to society in terms of loss of lives, damage to livelihood, financial losses, damage to qualities of the environment

Aims

The successful participants will be able to:

• enhance professional skills in public and private sectors relevant to the assessment and management of natural hazards (e.g. protecting existing infrastructure and lives from natural hazard risks)
• know where and how to take preventive measures for risk reduction in the face of limited resources and
• enhance sustainable societal developments in the built environment
