Propagation of uncertainties in engineering and systems

We thank you all for attending the ICASP11 conference. With over 300 participants it was a great success.

The ICASP Conference secretariat will be closed end of September. If you have any request please send an e-mail to icasp11@ethz.ch before end of September. Thanks Annette Walzer

Abstract

In the past decade, propagation of uncertainties in engineering and systems has gained increasing interests. Development of theoretical and computational mechanics and methods, particularly the finite elements and extensions, meshfree methods and multi-scale mechanics, greatly enhanced the ability of science and engineering community in understanding the phenomena and mechanism of engineering structures and systems. Meanwhile, the enhancement and refinement of the deterministic methodologies in modeling and analysis also exposed the importance of uncertainties and their propagations in engineering and systems. Many phenomena and behaviors of engineering structures and systems, particularly those in nonlinear mechanics and systems, cannot be rationally understood and controlled without considering uncertainties and their propagations. In this regard, particularly interested in are the methodologies capturing the propagation of uncertainties, the mechanism of propagation of uncertainties, multi-scale random fluctuations and coupling effects in complex engineering structures and systems.
